On 30th and 31st of May 2016 FACCE SURPLUS organized a scoping workshop in Ghent, where members of the FACCE SURPLUS Steering Committee met along with representatives from FACCE-JPI SAB and StAB, other related initiatives as well as national experts under the auspices of the Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant.
To present funded projects and create synergy with ongoing research, FACCE SURPLUS will host a kick-off event in Denmark in September 2016. The event is part of the International Biorefining Seminar and Partnering Workshop which aims at facilitating European consortia establishment in the field of biorefining and food production.

The Joint Programming Initiative on Agriculture, Food Security and Climate Change (FACCE-JPI) revises the Strategic Research Agenda, to set out clear policy-relevant research priorities on agriculture, food security and climate change in Europe.
It has now been decided which projects should receive funding in the frame of the FACCE SURPLUS ERA-NET.
27 submitted full proposals will undergo a final formal check and subsequent evaluation by a panel of international experts and external reviewers.
On June 11, 2015 the Steering Committee of FACCE SURPLUS met in Berlin to discuss and select pre-proposals to be invited to submit full proposals. In total, 28 out of 67 research consortia have received an invitation to participate in the second application step.

The deadline for pre-proposals to FACCE SURPLUS is passed, and the committee received a large number of proposals.
A network of 21 European partners from 14 countries is now calling for research that can provide a sustainable intensification of agricultural production.
