ACTIVE PACKAGING FOR FOOD: OPPORTUNITIES, TECHNOLOGIES AND CHALLENGES

SPEAKER 1: Prof. Selcuk Yildirim

Short Bio: Selcuk Yildirim is Professor and Head of Center for Food Processing and Packaging at the Institute of Food and Beverage Innovation, Zürich University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland. He received BSc. Degree in Food Engineering from Middle East Technical University in Turkey and MSc. Degree in Process Engineering from Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg Germany. He did his PhD at ETH in the field of Biotechnology and continued doing research as Post-Doc and Group Leader at ETH-Zurich. He worked afterwards as a researcher at the research and development center as packaging company (European R&D Center of Alcan Packaging) before joining the ZHAW in 2010 as professor and researcher.

Selcuk Yildirim is a member of the board of “Swiss Food Research” and he is founder and leading research partner of the Packaging Innovation Network, Switzerland. He also serves for the board of IAPRI (International Association of Packaging Research Institutes). In close collaboration with the industry, his group aims to develop of innovative and sustainable packaging technologies for optimal food quality and food safety.

ADVANCED ACTIVE FOOD PACKAGING SOLUTIONS FOR USE IN MICROWAVE OVENS

SPEAKER 1: Dr. Alexander Bardenstein

Short Bio: Short Bio: Alexander Bardenstein is a Business Area Manager for Packaging Materials at the Center for Plastics and Packaging Technology of Danish Technological Institute. He holds a M.Sc. Eng. Phys. and Ph.D. in Solid State Physics and has more than 20-year experience in industrially oriented R&D. He has gained a broad expertise in plasma processing of packaging materials, microwaveable food packaging, temperature-compensating Equilibrium MAP for fresh produce, packaging for eCommerce and OTC drugs delivery, oxygen scavengers, antimicrobial packaging, microwave decontamination of foods, sustainable packaging materials, and other topics from crossdisciplinary research field of technical physics, applied physical chemistry, and active packaging technology.
