The Training School, organised in collaboration between the Technical University of Crete and FH Campus Wien, aims to provide researchers from Europe and beyond with the necessary skills to advance the circularity and sustainability of food packaging.

The three day programme starts with a technical site visit to Knossos, the largest Bronze Age archeological site on Crete as well as the historical museum where circular practices from antiquity to the present day are discussed.

This is followed by keynotes from renowned speakers on the topics of enabling the transition to circular and sustainable food packaging in the European Union as well as life cycle assessment.

The second day builds upon this and focuses on food packaging materials and waste streams, targets for a circular economy as well as recycling-friendly packaging design.

The latter includes a store check, analysis of actual food packaging found on the market, calculation of packaging recyclability as well as elaboration of improved design suggestions.

The third and final day then rounds off the training school with a lecture and workshop on innovative approaches in the collection and analysis of circular economy related data as well as communication of sustainability aspects.

Alongside the program there will be space for networking and evening activities.
