In 2025, the reorganisation of the Norwegian Centre for Molecular Medicine (NCMM) into the Norwegian Centre for Molecular Medicine and Bioscience (NCMMB) will be a key initiative within this. The change marks an important step towards fostering convergence across academic environments at UiO. NCMMB will play a crucial role in strengthening collaboration and synergy within the life sciences, and in developing the next generation of researchers.
Located at the heart of UiO's new Life Sciences Building, NCMMB will contribute to UiO’s ambition as a leading institution in research and innovation.
By strengthening the connections between research leaders at NCMMB and other life sciences environments at UiO, Oslo University Hospital (OUS), and beyond, NCMMB will contribute to excellent research and collaboration across disciplines. This will be achieved by enhancing partnerships between researchers in molecular medicine, bioscience, and medical research.
NCMMB will play a pivotal role in facilitating convergence in the new Life Sciences Building
The Life Sciences Building will be a hub for cross-cutting research, bringing diverse scientific communities together under one roof. It is a key initiative for UiO, designed to support both excellent research and education.
NCMMB will help realise the purpose of the Life Sciences Building in creating an environment that drives progress in life sciences and biosciences at UiO. The building is designed to foster collaboration across disciplines. The co-location of NCMMB with other health and life science environments at the MN, MED, and OD faculties, as well as Oslo University Hospital, will promote integration and create new synergies.
NCMMB is linked to the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) through its membership of the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine, giving the Centre access to advanced scientific infrastructure and a dynamic global network for scientific exchange.
A powerhouse for early-career researchers
NCMMB will serve as an incubator for early-career researchers, providing them with the tools and skills needed to become leading scientists. Future students will benefit from an interdisciplinary and excellent research environment.
The EMBL model for early-career research leaders enables NCMMB to attract national and international research talent and external funding.
