Whistleblowing, Activism, and Democracy
ABSTRACT
Whistleblowing and activism are related in that both forms of action formulate critiques of existing practices and suggest actions to address these problems. They are, however, also quite different. Where activists present critiques from an outside position, whistleblowers are per definition members of employees in the organizations and institutions they criticize. The talk will reflect on these similarities and differences and consider how activists and whistleblowers contribute to democracy in complementary yet distinct ways.
