"ANN applied in diary barn to mitigate the impact of pollutant gases. In such way, I’m working deeply to reduce the environmental damage occurred in dairy barn management," Luciano Manuel Santoro.

Project Title: Artificial Neural Network in Organic Farming: Perspectives and Challenges.

  • Organic data analysis and preprocessing
  • Construction and training of prediction models
  • Evaluation of outcomes and performances

Objective: to create a prediction models adapted to organic dataset.

Expected results and relevance for the organic sector: Prediction models able to help farmers in decision-making process and highlights new methodologies in organic farming.

Highlights from the stay

"In December, the last month of my stay, I had the opportunity to enjoy the Spanish Christmas period, spending time walking through and exploring the city centre. The atmosphere felt very familiar; many traditions closely resemble those found in Italy, particularly in Sicily, where festive decorations, street markets, and the general sense of celebration create a similar cultural environment.

In parallel with these personal experiences, a preliminary modelling activity was carried out to identify reliable input variables for predicting emissions from animals fed with organic feed. A linear regression approach was applied to evaluate the relationship between feeding parameters and emission outcomes. The model’s performance was assessed using diagnostic plots and regression graphs, which were attached to illustrate the results more clearly. These visual tools contributed to verifying the consistency of the predictive patterns and determining whether the selected variables can produce acceptable and robust forecasting outcomes," Luciano Manuel Santoro.
