About

The Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) is a governmental research and development center for environmental expertise.  Syke forms part of Finland's national environmental administration and has a significant role in implementing WFD and MSFD. The institute hosts the largest community of freshwater and marine experts and researchers in Finland. Syke develops science-based knowledge and solutions to support conservation, management and sustainable use of inland waters and marine areas in a changing environment.

Main task

Syke has the leading role in WP1 and is involved in WPs 2-4 and 6. Syke is also responsible for the demo site at Lake Vesijärvi. Syke’s team will include social scientists conducting policy mapping and promoting stakeholder engagement in addition to ecologists and limnologists evaluating the success of restoration measures.
