Summer Schools

Introduction

The rationale behind the idea of annual summer schools is to offer particularly promising doctoral candidates the opportunity of becoming the spearhead of research in career guidance and counselling and related research. The programme encompasses ECTS credited activities to develop the research competences of participants, for example by introducing, experimenting with, and developing new research methods. Participants should not only become highly competent researchers in our field and develop innovative knowledge, but also develop their teaching, management, communication and networking competences. Due to the practice-orientation of our field, we support the participants in the development of their own competences in career guidance and counselling. Summer schools consist of various working methods: presentations, workshops, study visits, and freetime activities. A central part of the programme is currently collective academic supervision (CAS) which facilitates academic learning. The main idea of CAS is that doctoral researchers meet in small groups, present their thesis project as a work-in-progress, and benefit from feedback from peers and more experienced academics.

Becoming a participant

If you wish to participate in the future summer schools, here is some advice how to do it:

  • Join the ECADOC groups on social media to learn about a new call for participants. This is usually published at the end of the year for the following year’s summer school.
  • Familiarise yourself with the selection criteria: you need to be enrolled in a doctoral programme, and you should be involved in a doctoral project related to career guidance and counselling.
  • Learn about your funding opportunities in advance. This might include funding e.g. from your home institution, or Erasmus+ grants. Please note that the organisers of ECADOC summer school do not have any funding available for the participants.
