At Højbakkegård 25 km west of Copenhagen 24 field plots offer the possibility to study deep root growth and function. The plots are designed to study soil, nutrients, microbes and roots down to 5 meters.
Rhizotrons are placed and allow for visual root observations, continuous soil moisture measurements and placement of tracers. It is also possible to insert and subsequently recollect soil samples at different depths. This will allow the use of tracers in the soil, as well as to recollect the soil for measurement whether and how it has been affected by the roots and for measurement of the root and soil biology developed within it.
