Unique research facilities have been established at Højbakkegård 25 km west of Copenhagen, Denmark. They make it possible to study deep rooting in semi-field conditions and in actual field plots.

There are:

  • 12 root towers, each being 4 meters tall, with transparent walls and sliding boards to study roots, inject tracers and take samples
  • 24 field plots with tubes for ingrowth core technology and minirhizotrons

On the following pages you find a selection of photos from the project. The photos illustrate the establishment of root towers and field plots as well as development of various technologies and methods required in order to carry out research in deep soil layers.
