Natural nursing procedures implemented in French dairy farms

The early cow-calf separation is a common practice in most dairy farms, but it is questioned by both farmers and citizens. In the frame of the ProYoungStock CORE Organic project, alternative practices implemented by 102 French dairy farmers were described.

Living mulches for weed control under the row – technical tips for the selection of suitable species

Living mulch has been evaluated through a participative approach involving researchers and producers. Several advantages, as well as some weak points, of the technique have been showed, and some technical tips have been issued from the practical activities.

Mulch with strawberry is used also as a commercial claim from the Colle Stefano Winery, involved in the research project.

The success of living mulches largely depends on some technical precautions to be taken, especially during the first year after installation. Thanks to a participative research approach, practical tips can now be provided to overcome the main critical points.

Greenresilient experimental site visit: Optimizing Crop rotation in organic greenhouse cultivation in Switzerland

On August 7th, a presentation of the Greenresilient project was held during a special day dedicated to exchanging experiences about vegetables crops. The meeting and visit of the greenhouses was organized by FiBL and Agroscope, and took place in Conthey, Switzerland.
