PIG-PARADIGM host satellite session at the 16th International Symposium on Digestive Physiology of Pigs

On May 20, PIG-PARADIGM hosted a satellite session at the 16th International Symposium on Digestive Physiology of Pigs (DPP) in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin - an internationally recognized conference on pig nutrition, physiology, and health. The session attracted more than 100 participants and sparked lively discussions among researchers, industry experts, and policy stakeholders.
Titled “Mitigating Antimicrobial Resistance by Promoting Gut Health in Pigs,” the session showcased research subprojects from the Nutrition Pillar. Presenters shared insights into microbiome-focused dietary strategies and host–microbiome interactions aimed at reducing antibiotic use and supporting piglet health—contributing to more sustainable production systems.
The session began with an introduction to PIG-PARADIGM by Charlotte Lauridsen, followed by a keynote from Richard Pereira, who offered a One Health view on antimicrobial resistance in pigs. The program continued with talks by key researchers from the Nutrition Pillar, including:
- A global view on carbohydrates in promoting gut health of piglets - Knud Erik Bach Knudsen
- Aspects of dietary protein on gut microbial ecology in piglets - Nuria Canibe
- In-feed metal supplements shape gut microbiome and antimicrobial resistance in postweaning pigs - Peng Ji
- Impact of maternal diet on post-weaning piglet health - Carolyn Slupsky
- Novel sustainable feedstuffs for promoting gut health in piglets - Elisabeth Chassé
By presenting at DPP, a key platform for advancing knowledge in the field, PIG-PARADIGM reinforced its commitment to science-based solutions for one of the most pressing challenges in animal and human health.
