PIG-PARADIGM PhD student presents poster at THINK Piglet Health & Nutrition 2023
On September 21st, PIG-PARADIGM's PhD student, Pernille Aagaard Madsen, presented during the poster session at THINK Piglet Health & Nutrition 2023 in Copenhagen.
With the title "Identification of oxidative distress markers induced by enteric bacterial infection", Pernille's poster provided an captivating overview of her work within PIG-PARADIGM.
Pernille's project aims to investigate if control of oxidative stress via endogenous antioxidant systems can restore microbial homeostasis in pigs with enteric infection. This involves experiments with catheterized pigs, including intravenous challenges and sample collection to examine inflammatory and oxidative responses. Additionally, dietary interventions with varying fatty acid compositions and antioxidants will be studied.
Pernille hopes that her project will provide feeding initiatives aiming to enhance the health and robustness of the intestine and thus contribute to strategies to reduce the use of antibiotics in the pig production.
