Recently, PIG-PARADIGM Research Theme Leads, Dr. Yanhong Liu and Dr. Carolyn Slupsky spoke at California Swine Day. Organized by the UC Davis CLEAR Center and the California Pork Producers Association, this event brought together researchers, pork producers, and stakeholders from across California.

Dr. Yanhong Liu opened the meeting with research insights on "Boosting Robustness in Pigs Through Nutrition and Feed Management." As part of PIG-PARADIGM, young researchers from her lab, Sangwoo Park and Supatirada (Jane) Wongchanla, are exploring monoglycerides of short-chain fatty acids and functional amino acids to improve pig nutrition.

Following Dr. Liu's presentation, Dr. Carolyn Slupsky discussed the use of piglets as translational models for human nutrition research. Amara Benn, a PhD student in her lab, is exploring the effects of maternal fiber intake on offspring gut health and microbiota within her PIG-PARADIGM subproject.
