November Monthly Seminar recap
It's time for another Monthly Seminar! For November, the Microbiome Pillar invited Univ.-Prof. Dr. Thomas Clavel from Institute of Medical Microbiology, Functional Microbiome Research Group, University Hospital of RWTH Aachen, Germany. Dr. Clavel gave a fascinating talk: "Synthetic communities of cultured bacteria: from models to live biotherapeutic product".
He shared his experience studying the diversity and functions of intestinal microbiomes in humans, pigs, and mice using culture-based and sequencing approaches. Additionally, he provided valuable insights into into advances in understanding microbe-microbe and microbe-host interactions, as well as the development of microbiome-based therapeutics utilizing synthetic communities.
Within PIG-PARADIGM, the Microbiome Pillar aims to investigate the overarching hypothesis: Understanding of fundamental driving forces and manipulation of the intestinal microbiome can be a powerful tool to maximize resilience of the developing microbiome and its host, and thus minimize the need for antimicrobial therapy, and spread of AMR.
Thank you to Dr. Thomas Clavel for his informative presentation and to everyone who joined us. It’s always exciting to see how these seminars spark new ideas and strengthen collaboration across disciplines.
