Big congratulations to Jiahong Sun on successfully defending her PhD at the University of Copenhagen on August 26th, 2026
Jiahong's PhD thesis, "Genome-wide associations of hematological traits linked to growth and post-weaning diarrhea in pigs", contributes valuable new knowledge to our understanding of pig health and resilience during the critical weaning period.
Her research investigated how genetic variation and blood-based health indicators are associated with growth performance, disease resilience, and susceptibility to post-weaning diarrhea in pigs. By combining genome-wide association analyses with health, growth, and blood data from more than 2,000 pigs, the project identified genetic regions linked to physiological traits relevant to health and resilience.
These findings provide important insights into the genetic basis of pig health and may support future breeding strategies aimed at improving animal welfare and reducing the need for antibiotic treatments.
Congratulations to Jiahong on this impressive achievement and best wishes for the future! PIG-PARADIGM is very proud of you!!!!🎉 🎉 🎉
