Welcome to the Body and Brain Interactions Network (AUBBIN), which is an Interdisciplinary Research Network supported by the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University.
Recent advances in neuroscience challenge the traditional separation of mind and body by highlighting how bodily systems actively influence brain function, behaviour, perception, and consciousness. Processes such as heart rate, gut activity, immune responses, microbiome, or diet, can directly influence the brain, and are linked to mental health. Understanding these brain–body interactions represent a new frontier that requires moving beyond a purely brain-centric, reductionist perspective. The field is inherently interdisciplinary, combining physiology, neuroscience, immunology, cognition, and philosophy, and relies on state-of-the-art tools to integrate data across tissues, systems, and scales.
AUBBIN will bring together researchers working with various aspects of brain-body interactions in a collaborative network, spanning the use of diverse animal models, human studies, and computational methods to uncover shared and unique mechanisms, with strategic relevance to metabolism, physiology, and improved health outcomes.
