Offshore field work

New data for SUBNORDICA

A key research approach for SUBNORDICA is offshore field work in deeper water settings using large vessels to acquire new geological and archaeological data.

Data acquisition methods include geophysical (seismic and acoustic) surveying, seafloor scanning with multibeam echosounders and side scan sonars, and sediment sampling using a variety of coring techniques such as vibro, grab and box coring, as well as dredging and additional diving in Baltic Sea areas.

SUBNORDICA will have several larger offshore field work campaigns in the North Sea to acquire new data and test performance of automated identification of areas with human activity. The expeditions will further stimulate the synergy across the project and represent unique learning platforms for the early career scientists in SUBNORDICA.
