Peter Moe Astrup works as a diver and museum curator for the maritime archaeological unit at Moesgaard Museum, Denmark.
Peter Moe Astrup is a specialist in submerged landscapes with expertise in modelling former coastlines to identify archaeological “hotspots”. Over the past 10 years he has led numerous research excavations on submerged Stone Age sties. Astrup is a Principal Investigator of SUBNORDICA and will lead WP3 and be responsible for excavations undertaken during the project and direct staff in WP3.
Peter and his team hope to resolve the long-standing debate on whether intensive marine economies were a late Mesolithic phenomenon or have an earlier and more widespread history associated with submerged shorelines at greater depths. The work in WP3 will contribute to the synergistic modelling of the Mesolithic habitations for use in deep water prospection, especially on palaeocoastlines and the development and testing of methods for site identification.
