Martina Karle

Martina is a geologist and Head of unit Coastal- and Quaternary Geology at the NIhK. Martina is working on a process-oriented understanding of the interrelationships between coastal morphological processes and the changes in human habitats along the northern German coast during the Holocene.

As a sedimentologist she works on projects on various interdisciplinary issues on the coast of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Areas of investigation include estuaries, mudflats, islands, marshes and other coastal zones. Her research focusses on the relationship between natural landscape dynamics and human adaptation strategies.

Martina will work in WP4 of the SUBNORDICA project in the Southern Baltic. She will contribute to the sedimentological analysis of core data and reconstruction of submerged landscapes
