Marcel is a postdoctoral researcher in prehistoric archaeology based at the Unit of Prehistoric Archaeology and the Interdisciplinary Faculty at the University of Rostock.
He is interested in hunter-gatherer communities of different periods, with a focus on resilience-based human dynamics. One area of interest is the German Baltic coast, where submerged and still terrestrial settlement clusters provide an excellent opportunity to study the adaptation of small-scale societies to sea-level rise. He is also PI of the ongoing SEASCAPE project, funded by the Leibniz Association, investigating newly discovered stone structures on the seafloor of the southern Baltic Sea.
Marcel is a cooperation partner of SUBNORDICA, mainly for work carried out within Work Package 4.
