Seasonal Occurrence of marine mammals and the effect of seismic activities, based on PAM

Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) can be used to monitor vociferous marine mammals and is broadly used worldwide. It is the only way to monitor the presence of marine mammals in remote areas 24 hours a day and in all weather conditions Also, PAM is used to monitor the ambient noise level and the possible effects of anthropogenic noise on calling marine mammals. In this study, we use a widely spread array of acoustic recorders across the license area in Northeast Greenland to gain insight in the seasonal occurrence and spatial distribution of the marine mammal species that are acoustically active in the area. Furthermore, we analyse the calling rate during seismic activities and without, to investigate the possible effects of seismic activities.
