PhD supervision in the field

Late 2024, supervisors and PhD students joined up in the barley field trials in Ethiopia to discuss and to see progress related to evaluation of promising, selected barley genotypes. An important component of their PhD studies.

The visits included:

Upper Dinsho on-farm (Bale zone, Oromiya Region): Evaluation of resistance to leaf scald, caused by the pathogen Rhynchosporium commune.

Holetta ARC (West Shewa, Oromiya Region): Evaluation of naked barley landraces under acidic and non-acidic soil environments.

Kofale on-farm (West Arsi zone, Oromiya Region): Evaluation of resistance to net blotch, caused by the pathogen Pyrenophora teres.

Dhera sub-station of Kulumsa ARC (Arsi zone, Oromiya Region): Evaluation of moisture stress tolerance in barley genotypes.
