The research project SunTune is funded by a four-year grant of DKK 23 million by Innovation Fund Denmark.
The project has allowed the formation of a consortium of Danish and international researchers with expertise of pivotal importance for the execution of the project, and of representatives from Danish companies, which are active in solar-cell manufacturing as well as in promoting their use for the production of electricity (see SunTune Members).
Based on investigations of the underlying physical mechanisms, the project will use advanced nanotechnology to develop materials for efficiency improvements through the mechanism of upconversion (see Research) and merge these materials with state-of-the-art photo-voltaic materials to develop high-efficiency solar cells of commercial interest.
