WP1 aims to provide methods and data for improving the quantification of N and C inputs from crop residues in representative Northern European arable cropping systems. The activity will identify methods to estimate plant biomasses recycled to soils, including roots, and to characterize the crop residues. The WP will also collect data on a large range of crop residues varying by their origin, plant species, plant parts, and their main chemical characteristics so as to provide data on C and N inputs from main crop residues in various cropping systems. These data will be available within the ResidueGas project to WP4 (for modelling) and WP5 (for refining emission factors).
