Moesgaard, 14th-16th August 2025
This symposium invites scholars, artists and activists working with islandness through feminist and/or decolonial methods and analysis to share their work with a focus on relatedness, belonging and conviviality.
We invite reflections on how experiences and practices of relatedness/conviviality in and around islands shape – and is shaped by – power dynamics and historical structures of power and coloniality. We welcome academic contributions as well as artistic expressions, aiming at inviting readers into the pluriverse of everyday island life. How do people in islands quest into and do belonging with nature, humans, non-humans, the supernatural and the world?
The symposium will be the third annual workshop in the Gendered Island Futures (GIF)Project. Some participants will be part of the Faroese network of artists and scholars working towards a book on these themes and some participants will be part of the Island Feminisms network, also working on a book projects and PhD theses.
The aim of the symposium is to create network among island studies scholars with an interest in gender and feminist approaches, and to support the development of our writing projects through presentations and feedback.
