Arla is one of the largest dairy companies in the world owned by 8,500 farmers in Denmark, Sweden, United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxemburg. The mission of Arla is to secure the highest value for our farmer´s milk while creating opportunities for their growth. Arla wants to take responsibility of our impact on society and the environment with a long-term perspective on food safety, animal welfare, resource efficiency and climate impact. Using 2015 as a baseline year Arla has committed to a 2030-target of a 30% reduction in the greenhouse gas-emissions related to farming activities, waste handling, and packaging materials (scope 3-emissions). Nitrification inhibitors can contribute to reduce nitrous oxide-emissions from the fields used for feed production. However, we want the nitrification inhibitors to be evaluated to secure that wide implementation on Arla-farms in seven countries will not lead to unwanted effects on neither ground and surface waters nor soil health and biodiversity. Therefore, Arla has engaged in the amoA-project and supports the development of the impact evaluation framework for use of nitrification inhibitors. Arla will contribute to roll out the idea of an impact evaluation framework internationally and hopefully this will lead to nitrification inhibitors being used more to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from crop production across countries.
