RESEARCH: EVALUATION OF CULTURE EVENTS

Hanne Lynghøj has by the 1st of September begun a PhD project with the title "Evaluating cultural events".

The dissertation will develop a situated approach to evaluation, suitable for evaluation of complex culture events. Furthermore the dissertation experiment with digital methods and thus contribute to the methodical development of the field of evaluation in general as well as evaluation of culture events specifically.   

The project will be conducted as a empirical work which contribute to the overall evaluation of Aarhus as European Capital of Culture 2017. The following three examples can be highlighted:

It will be examined how the city councilors of Central Denmark Region ‘experiences’ Aarhus as European Capital of Culture 2017 and the importence of culture in the political context. It will be examined how cultural value and legacy in a culture political context is created through Aarhus as European Capital of Culture 2017. Furthermore it will be examined, how the evaluation changes its form and meaning during the process, and which consequences that has for the understanding and use of the evaluation.

The project contributes to a discussion of alternative methods for evaluation of culture events. The dissertation is expected ready by the end of 2019.
