Quantum Futures: Exploring how visions of quantum technologies influence research, innovation, governance, and public life

Why Quantum Futures?

Quantum technologies promise new possibilities in computing, sensing, communication, and security. But quantum futures are not determined by technology alone. They are shaped by the visions, expectations, hopes, and concerns of scientists, policymakers, companies, and citizens. Quantum Futures investigates these sociotechnical imaginaries and explores how more inclusive and responsible quantum futures can be imagined and debated.

What we study

Imaginaries

  • How visions of the future shape innovation and governance.

Communication

  • How quantum technologies are explained, framed, and understood.

Governance

  • How societies manage opportunities, risks, and ethical challenges.

Public engagement

  • How stakeholders and citizens can participate in shaping quantum futures.
