Child and the Book Conference 2026

Birgitte Beck Pristed and Nadiia Pavlyk recently took part in the international Child and the Book Conference 2026, hosted by the University of Crete in Greece. The conference brought together researchers, educators, and children’s literature scholars from different countries to discuss contemporary issues in children’s books, reading, and publishing. The conference created space for international exchange and discussion around children’s literature and its response to current social and political challenges.

In our joint presentation, “From Publishing to Reading Displacement-Themed Ukrainian Children’s Books Today”, we explored the contemporary Ukrainian children’s book Complete Zero by Olha Savytska. It focused on how Ukrainian publishers, authors and readers engage with the themes of war and social exclusion, and on the role of children’s literature in supporting young readers during wartime.

Біргітте Бек Прістед і Надія Павлик взяли участь у міжнародній конференції «Child and the Book Conference 2026», організованій Критським університетом у Греції. Конференція зібрала дослідників, освітян та фахівців у галузі дитячої літератури з різних країн для обговорення актуальних питань щодо дитячої книги, читання та видавничої справи. Захід став майданчиком для міжнародного обміну думками та дискусій про дитячу літературу, а також її реагування на сучасні соціальні й політичні виклики.

У нашій спільній презентації ми розглянули сучасну українську дитячу книгу «Повний нуль» Ольги Савицької. У презентації основна увага приділялася тому, як українські видавці, автори та читачі підходять до тем війни та соціального виключення, а також ролі літератури у підтримці молодих людей у воєнний час.
