The 2025 Infrastructural Citizen Week organized by the Energy Lives! team will focus on exploring the visible and invisible energy infrastructures across Denmark, Norway, and Sweden from an aesthetic perspective.
This event is one of the annual thematic engagements planned to bring together past and contemporary stakeholders in discussions about energy use and transitions in the Nordic countries. The week will feature energy walks and visual interactive interventions designed to highlight both conspicuous and subtle elements of the energy landscape. These activities aim to enhance public understanding and appreciation of the infrastructural elements that power daily life but often remain unnoticed.
By emphasizing the aesthetic aspects of energy infrastructure, the event seeks to deepen public engagement and dialogue about the ongoing energy transitions and their impacts on society and the environment. This approach reflects the project’s broader methodology of integrating historical research with contemporary stakeholder involvement, enriching the discussion with diverse perspectives that include not only economic actors like businesses but also publics, civil society organizations, energy workers, policy institutions, and the arts.
The aim is to use storytelling, both visual and textual, to connect the energy choices and actions of the past with present-day debates and to foster a comprehensive understanding of energy’s role in societal change. Organized collaboratively by the project partners and local actors across political, societal, cultural, and economic spheres, the 2025 Infrastructural Citizen Week promises to be a significant event that engages a wide audience and stimulates informed discussions about sustainable energy futures in the Nordic region.
