About the project

The “From Campus to Careers” project is a joint initiative by a consortium of five universities under Circle U. Our mission is to highlight and strengthen the value of foreign languages and intercultural competencies in higher education — and to make them visible, meaningful and relevant for the career path for all students.
This project has two interconnected resources:

  • An Employability Skills Mapping Tool (ESMT) — a framework which helps students, staff and career service professionals to identify, map and communicate the skills and capitals embedded in language education.
  • An Online Employability for Languages Module (ELM) — a digital learning module that guides students to reflect on language based and transferable skills and supports them in planning and adjusting their future careers with confidence.

Why It Matters

  • Language and intercultural skills remain under valued in many labour markets, despite their growing importance in globalised and multicultural work environments.
  • Many language competent students lack the resources to articulate the value of their skills effectively.
  • Educational curricula often fail to connect language learning with practical career outcomes.
  • Employers increasingly seek employees who combine disciplinary knowledge with intercultural com-petence, flexibility and a global outlook.

Our project addresses these challenges by offering practical tools and an evidence based framework to support students and to encourage institutions  to align curricula to meet new and emergent market demands.

Who This Is For

  • Students — especially those with core or dual language competencies, who want to understand how language learning can serve as a competitive advantage in their career paths.
  • Academic staff & Educators — who wish to integrate employability thinking into language and in-tercultural programmes and make learning outcomes more transparent.
  • Career services & University administration — interested in guidance tools for counselling, skill recognition, and curriculum development.
  • Employers and External Partners — who wish to recognise and recruit graduates with language, intercultural and transferable competencies and contribute to shaping curricula to meet la-bour market needs.

Our Approach and Values

  • We adopt a holistic, capital based view of employability — seeing language learning not mere-ly as language acquisition, but as a source of human/educational, social, cultural, identity and psy-chological capital.
  • We believe in co creation and collaboration — engaging students, educators, career consultants, and employers to ensure relevance and impact.
  • We aim for transparency and practical relevance — turning academic experience into tangible skills, competencies, and career opportunities.
  • We promote mobility, multilingualism, diversity, inclusion and global engagement — equipping graduates to thrive in international and multicultural environments.
