MOVE Together

Building Community through Activity

The MOVE app is a mobile app designed to support people in forming social relations around physical exercise in residential areas in Denmark. The goal of the app is to facilitate capacity building on health in local communities. MOVE was created by two former medicine students, in collaboration with residents and health professionals. The app was first designed with a more niche purpose and target group, namely young people with illnesses who needed motivation for exercise and being active. Usability tests across a broader range of ages and health conditions prompted the expansion of the app, since loneliness and isolation affect more than only young people with specific conditions.

Now, anyone can create a profile and find local exercise communities to join or start their own. Written communication is possible through the app, both in private and public groups, but the main purpose is to create new groups and local communities who can meet and exercise together. TrygFonden has supported the research and development of the MOVE app.

InfraPublics Lesson

Apps like MOVE are developed for a specific goal and purpose, bringing people together outside of the platform to do something together in urban spaces. They lower the barriers to access and information about local offers and communities, allowing new ties to a given location also for newcomers or citizens interested in new types of activities.
