Toke Mulvad's project

Toke Jøns Mulvad’s project delves into the Danish legislation on surveillance and examines the ethical challenges of surveillance during the COVID-19 pandemic in Denmark. During the pandemic, surveillance applications such as “SmitteStop” and “Coronapas” were introduced to help manage the spread of the virus.

The project approaches the subject of surveillance from the theoretical lens of actor-network theory, exploring the sociotechnical relations between human and non-human actors. Through qualitative methods – including document analysis and case studies – the project draws on interdisciplinary approaches rooted in both history and information studies to understand surveillance as a matter for the citizen.

By focusing on surveillance from the perspective of the citizen, the project aims to highlight the tensions between privacy concerns and the pursuit of common good in contexts such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
