Social cohesion is a key concept in how policy-makers, social scientists and ordinary people think about the social world. At the same time, however, we have a poor conceptual understanding of social cohesion. When exactly is a society socially cohesive? What does it feel like to be in a socially cohesive society? What is the value of social cohesion? Drawing on phenomenology and social ontology, the GLUE project aims to clarify the nature and value of social cohesion. Ultimately, this will help philosophers, social scientists, and policymakers understand the glue that holds societies together.
GLUE is funded by an ERC Starting Grant.
GLUE runs from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2029
The project is funded by The European Research Council
