The International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGEM) is a global synthetic biology competition that brings together student teams from universities around the world to design and build innovative biological systems that address real-world challenges. Each team develops a research project over the course of the year, combining laboratory work with considerations such as ethics, sustainability, and societal impact. You can find much more information on the official website here.
Participating in iGEM offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in interdisciplinary research, collaborate with students from diverse academic backgrounds, and develop skills in project management, communication, and innovation. It is an ideal platform for students interested in applying science and engineering to meaningful, real-world problems.
If you are interested in joining the iGEM team in 2027, please complete the form below to express your interest. You must be a student at Aarhus University during 2027 to participate on the team. Please note that submitting the form does not guarantee you a position on the team.
You can expect the iGEM process to start early 2027, where the final team will be decided by the AUNAB steering committee.
In spring 2027 the team will meet regularly to develop their innovative synthetic biology project. They will submit a grant application to Novo Nordisk Foundation, which will cover travel and laboratory expenses.
In summer 2027 (june, july and August) the team will carry out the main laboratory work to establish proof of concept.
In fall 2027 the team will complete their documentation and create a project pitch. They will register for and attend the Grand Jamboree (most likely in Paris) to pitch their work for all other iGEM teams.
