Nature- and knowledge center at Gjellerodde
New innovative and interdisciplinary collaboration led by Ellen Martine Heuser
The background of the project is to establish a nature- and knowledge center at Gjellerodde in Lemvig Municipality (EU Natura 2000 area) as well as a Hedekontor – a mobile office for selected heathland areas in Northwestern Jutland, including Trehøje in Herning Municipality.
The new center will be based in a former scout’s lodge at Gjellerodde, owned by Lemvig Municipality. The purpose of the center is both to work with sustainable nature management and the restoration of the heathlands, and to increase children’s and adults’ knowledge of and interest in the heathlands and Gjellerodde. These cultural landscapes represent unique values that are currently threatened by the ecological and climate crisis.
In summary, the project will establish an innovative and interdisciplinary collaboration focusing on the interaction between cultural history and sustainable nature management. The establishment phase of the project, which is supported by the Danish rural development fund Landdistriktspuljen, has already begun.
The project is formulated by Dr.phil & PhD Susanne William Rasmussen and Ellen Martine Heuser. It has been established under the grazing- and nature management association ‘Får til Kanten – levende landskaber’ based in Northwestern Jutland.
TV MIDTVEST recently interviewed Ellen Martine Heuser and Berit Kiilerich regarding their efforts to safeguard the unique heathland of Jutland. Their work highlights the growing commitment among young people to restore and protect this distinctive Danish landscape for future generations. You can find the interview here (in Danish).
