More than 10,000 years ago, the first cities emerged. Since then, urban centres have developed worldwide, yet we still know little about why some thrive while others decline.
The Model City project uses advanced computer simulations and archaeological data from cities in the Roman Empire, Classical Mesoamerica, and Medieval Northern Europe to explore how people, environments, and social and economic networks shape urban life. By studying the past, we can better understand the challenges facing cities today.
