The Road to Palmyra
New publication by Museum Curator Anne Marie Nielsen (Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek) and Professor Rubina Raja.
Nielsen, A. M. and Raja, R. (2019). The Road to Palmyra. Copenhagen: Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek.
In the new anthology The Road to Palmyra, edited by professor and centre leader Rubina Raja together with museum curator Anne Marie Nielsen, 14 researchers have contributed to an overview of the latest research in Palmyrene archaeology and history. The contributions in the publication deal with many different aspects of the city in the Syrian Desert such as the monuments and graves, religion, trade and society as well as the rediscovery and early excavations of Palmyra. Also artefacts from the city, now in the collection of Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, play a central role in the anthology.
The Road to Palmyra is published in connection with a new special exhibition with the same name at Ny Carlsberg Glytotek, Copenhagen. The special exhibition, Vejen til Palmyra (The Road to Palmyra), is curated by the editors of the book, Anne Marie Nielsen and Rubina Raja, and it is the first special exhibition in Denmark devoted to the culture of ancient Palmyra.
