In connection with the conference "Palmyra and the East" (co-organised by the Palmyra Portrait Project (PPP) and the J. Paul Getty Museum), the PPP project members travelled to L.A. to participate in the conference and to spend some time browsing the museum's archive collection. They also took the opportunity to sit down with some of the museum's conservators and experts who had been brought in as speakers at the conference, to discuss the origin and dating of some of the portraiture in the project's extensive database.

Both the conference and the meetings were tremendously fruitful for the further work of the PPP.
