6.1 Offshore seabird concentrations in the Greenland Sea

By means of aerial surveys this project aims to map offshore seabird concentrations in and near the licence areas in the Greenland part of the Greenland Sea. Large numbers of seabirds breeding along the Barents Sea coasts are supposed to move through and close to the licence areas in September and October as they move towards wintering areas further south (SW-Greenland and Newfoundland waters). The most numerous species involved are thick-billed murre and little auk, but the area is also of major importance for the threatened ivory gull. The survey period will from late August to mid-September.
