4.1. Fish; diversity, abundance and identification of key spawning areas

Fish; diversity, abundance and identification of key spawning areas

This project will document ichthyoplankton and pelagic fish assemblages in the Greenland Sea. The horizontal and vertical distribution of each species will be assessed using ichthyoplankton nets, mesopelagic trawls and hydroacoustics. All samples will be preserved for further investigations, notably to establish the hatch dates, growth rates and feeding success of the early life stages of polar cod (Boreogadus saida), a key species in arctic marine ecosystems. The study will be conducted in close cooperation with theme 3.1 focusing on the benthic part of the fish fauna.
