3.1. Fish fauna in the Greenland Sea

Fish fauna in the Greenland Sea

The project will identify the species composition, abundance and distribution of the demersal fish fauna in the assessment area in the Greenland Sea. The project will combine bottom trawl hauls and sampling of environmental DNA  (eDNA). The eDNA content of the samples will be compared to the fish species in the trawl catches, and checked for a quantitative correlation between the weight of fish, of a given fish species, and the amount of eDNA. Further, eDNA samples will be used to identify the fish fauna not caught in the trawl and  in areas where it is not possible to trawl. The study will focus and the ecological most important species: Polar cod (Boreogadus saida) and Arctic/Ice cod (Arctogadus glacialis) and be conducted in close cooperation with theme 3.2 that focus on the pelagic part of the  fish fauna.
