Metal Finds and Coins. Final Publications from the Danish-German Jerash Northwest Quarter Project II
New publication by Professor Achim Lichtenberger (Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster) and Professor and Centre Director Rubina Raja (Aarhus University).
The second volume of the final publications from the excavations conducted by the Danish-German Jerash Northwest Quarter Project has been published. This new edited volume offers an in-depth analysis of the coins and metal remains found during the excavations.
The Danish-German team, led by Professor Achim Lichtenberger and Professor and Centre Director Rubina Raja, conducted excavations in the Northwest Quarter of Gerasa (modern Jerash in northern Jordan) from 2011–2016. Covering about 4 hectares, the Northwest Quarter is the highest point within the walled city. In total, the metal finds from the excavations comprise about one thousand objects of which the majority were made of iron. In addition, non-ferrous metals (bronze, copper, and brass) as well as lead are among the finds.
The contributions cover the small metal finds from the Northwest Quarter of Gerasa and examine the Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic coins found during excavations. The new volume underlines the ground-breaking outcomes of the high-definition and full-quantification approaches, which were implanted throughout the project and the excavations.
All eight volumes of the final publications from the Danish-German Jerash Northwest Quarter Project will be published in the series Jerash Papers (Brepols Publishers). Volume 3, Glass, Lamps, and Jerash Bowls. Final Publications from the Danish-German Jerash Northwest Quarter Project III is already in press.
