Reading group meeting: The Promise of Infrastructure

Info about event

Time

Friday 23 November 2018,  at 15:00 - 17:00

Location

4235-133 (Moesgaard)

Our next EcoGlobal reading group meeting will be 23 November (Friday) from 15:00-17:00 at Moesgaard (Building 4235; Room 133; the glass conference room across from the secretaries).

Our next readings will be chapters from a new edited volume on infrastructure. It seems apt to have a seminar focused on this topic since infrastructures (of one kind or another) are clearly integral to most of our projects.

The book from which we'll be reading is: The Promise of Infrastructure, edited by Nikhil Anand, Akhil Gupta, and Hannah Appel, Duke 2018.  (https://www.dukeupress.edu/the-promise-of-infrastructure)

We'll be discussing the following chapters (although I encourage those of you who are interested to take a look at the whole book):

Introduction: Temporality, Politics, and the Promise of Infrastructure / Hannah Appel, Nikhil Anand, and Akhil Gupta
1. Infrastructural Time / Hannah Appel
3. Infrastructures in and out of Time: The Promise of Roads in Contemporary Peru / Penny Harvey
6. A Public Matter: Water, Hydraulics, Biopolitics / Nikhil Anand
9. Infrastructure, Potential Energy, Revolution / Dominic Boyer

The group is open and welcoming to newcomers. For more info, please contact Heather Swanson at ikshswanson@cas.au.dk
