On March 18th 2025, MSc Asbjørn Malte Pedersen will be defending his dissertation 'Data Saves Lives: An Ethnography of a Healthcare Business Intelligence Unit'

We are pleased to announce the upcoming PhD defense of MSc Asbjørn Malte Pedersen, who will present his dissertation titled "Data Saves Lives - An Ethnography of a Healthcare Business Intelligence Unit." The defense will take place on Tuesday, 18th March 2025, from 13:00 to 16:00 at the Eduard Biermann Auditorium (1252-204), Søauditorierne, Bartholins Allé 3, 8000 Aarhus C.

Asbjørn’s dissertation investigates data work through a healthcare Business Intelligence Unit, unfolding their intricate work of repurposing and disseminating data in collaboration with healthcare professionals. His ethnographic research offers insights into the complex relationships between technology, data, and human practices within the healthcare sector.

The defense will be assessed by a distinguished committee:

  • Associate Professor Kasper Hedegård Schiølin, Aarhus University (Chair)
  • Associate Professor Kathleen Pine, Arizona State University, USA
  • Professor Gunnar Ellingsen, University of Tromsø - The Arctic University of Norway

Asbjørn has been guided in his research journey by his supervisors:
