AIAS - Interdisciplinary Scientific Cooperation between Ukraine and Denmark: Challenges and Opportunities

PI Lea W. Borčak presented her CRIES Work Package at AIAS (Aarhus University) on the roundtable discussion: "Strengthening Interdisciplinary Scientific Cooperation between Ukraine and Denmark".

Magdalena Małecka, Assistant Professor, Department of Science Education, University of Copenhagen, presenting "Academic solidarity and empowerment".

On Tuesday, Lea Wierød Borcak had the honour of contributing to, and representing The CRIES Project at the Roundtable "Interdisciplinary Scientific Cooperation between Ukraine and Denmark" hosted by Ukrainian Academic Network in Denmark, #SARU and Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS) - Aarhus University. This event brought together researchers from across all Ukranian and Danish regions to share insights and strengthen academic collaboration in the context of war, migration, and cultural resilience.

Lea presented her work package as a part of The CRIES Project - A #CHANSE and #HERA funded project lead by Project Leader Katrine Frøkjær Baunvig.
This particular work package investigates how Ukrainian refugees in Scandinavia and the Baltics are engaging in collective singing as a form of cultural continuity, identity expression, and resillience. Her presentation outlined our upcoming fieldwork with displaced Ukrainian singing communities in Denmark being a vital component of understanding the role of song in diasporic experience.
What better way to introduce the CRIES project than with a song? On our LinkedIn page you will find a snippet of us all singing Ой у лузі червона калина (Oi U Luzi Chervona Kalyna), a song that is typically associated with the Ukrainian people's aspiration for independence, and the song has therefore been banned on several occations throughout the years.

We are so very proud to contribute to a broader dialogue on displacement, heritage, and interdisciplinary solidarity. Thank you to the organisers especially Lesia Heiko, PhD Heiko, and thank you to Lotte Holm, Deputy Director, Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS) - Aarhus University for supporting such an amazing academic infrastructure!
Thank you to all fellow participants for the inspiring exchange and we hope to connect and collaborate furtherly!
