What is ERA net?

ERA-NET stands for European Research Area Network. It is a scheme that promotes the cooperation and coordination of research activities carried out at the national or regional level in the EU Member States and Associated States.

ERA-NET is a system of cross-national collaboration that brings together national research funders (governments, institutions or individuals), and researchers.

This is done via:

  • networking of research activities conducted at the national or regional level
  • mutual opening of national and regional research programmes
  • coordinated posting of calls for cross-national projects

The aim of the scheme is to improve the coherence and coordination across Europe of research programmes in the European Research Area. ERA-NET also enables national systems to take on tasks collectively that they would not have been able to tackle independently.
