The first BigLimNet meeting at Lake Erken will serve as a kickoff workshop bringing together participating institutes to present their expertise and ongoing research, discuss shared priorities for Nordic lake systems, review available data and infrastructure, and visit the Erken research facility. The meeting will focus on identifying key knowledge gaps and defining the future structure and activities of the BigLimNet collaboration, including potential working groups and next steps.
Lake Erken is located in a hemi-boreal landscape about 70 km northeast of Stockholm. It is a relatively large and shallow freshwater lake that is highly sensitive to environmental and climate-driven changes. Long-term ecological monitoring has been conducted since the 1940s, making it one of the best-documented lakes in Northern Europe. The lake is part of SITES (Swedish Infrastructure for Ecosystem Science), a national network of field stations providing standardized observations, experimental infrastructure, and open-access data to support ecosystem research across Sweden.
