The project visits and registers the larger collections of Palmyrene sculpture around the world. The sculptures are measured, described and photographed.
All information concerning the objects is entered in the project database.
In 2012, the large collection of Palmyrene portraits in the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek was registered. In 2013, the collections of Louvre, Yale University Art Gallery, Metropolitan Museum of Art and Ashmolean Museum were registered by the team. In 2014, team members registered the Palmyrene portraits in the Danish National Museum, the Fitzwilliam Museum and the British Museum.
The smaller museum collections, as well as private collections, are registered by means of publications and the kind help of museum staff and visitors at museums around the world.
We would appreciate any further help in this regard; if you are able to provide the project with information about portraits in private or small museum collections, please use the Palmyra Portrait Project registration form and forward your information to Rubina Raja (rubina.raja@cas.au.dk).
